David L. Levy is Professor and Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing at UMass-Boston. He teaches Business Strategy, International Business, Business and its Environment, and Busienss and Climate Change. He is active in developing the new College of Management Ph.D. Program and the departmental track in Organizations and Social Change, which is planned for launch in Fall 2012. 

 

He is Director of the Center for Sustainable Enterprise and Regional Competitiveness, whose mission is “to foster a transition to a clean, sustainable, and prosperous economy.” The center engages in collaborations among businesses, universities, and policymakers to advance research and education.

 

David is the founder and editor of Climate Inc., a new blog devoted to discussion of business and climate change. Climate Inc. provides an organizational and business lens on climate change, and brings together the views of academics, business managers, policymakers, and other thought leaders. Guest contributions are welcome!

 

David is frequently invited to lecture on the topic of business and climate change to policymakers, business and academic audiences. He has recently delivered presentations to a business forum in Berlin, a workshop of United Nations delegates in New York, and seminars at LSE, Manchester, Warwick, and MIT.

 

David has published two books on business and climate change.  He co-edited with Peter Newell “The Business of Global Environmental Governance”, published by MIT Press, Cambridge, Mass., 2005. David has conducted extensive research on corporate strategic responses to climate change in the US and Europe, and the growth of the renewable energy business sector in the New England region.

David is also interested in the political economy of globalization and efforts to use disclosure to make corporate governance more accountable to civil society. A paper on the politics of global production networks was published in the Academy of Management Review (2008), and a paper on the Global Reporting Initiative appeared recently in Business and Society.  David has also recently co-authored a chapter with Rami Kaplan of Tel Aviv University on the politics of Corporate Social Responsibility in an international context (see CV ).

 

David serves on the editorial boards of the journals Organization,  Organization and Environment, and Critical Perspectives on International Business. He is active with the Critical Management Studies interest group of the Academy of Management, and is on the International Advisory Board of the Centre for Business and Sustainable Development at Massey University, New Zealand.

 

During 1998/99, David was a Faculty Research Fellow at the Global Environmental Assessment project, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He was the College of Management Leadership Fellow at UMass during 2008-09.
