The Bloodsisters and other menstrual activists organized this contingent that marched in the annual Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival parade (always on Saturday evening). The picture doesn’t do them justice, but my memory is incredibly vivid. The “Blood Brigade” was at once playful and dead serious, they struck me as both a throw back and something wholly new and fresh, and I couldn’t take my eyes off of them. In that moment, I KNEW I had to study this little-known, but obviously passionate and creative loose network of activists.
