Service
I see service as an inseparable role of a faculty member as it connects the academic with the day by day practice at the university and in the counseling field. Despite serving on numerous committees on campus, one of my foci is to serve the local community, particularly the Asian community in the Greater Boston Area.
Asian Americans are one of the fastest growing minorities in the U.S. From 1990 to 1999, the population of Asian American has increased by 57%, proportionally more than any other minority group in the U.S. (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1999). In some states and metropolitan cities (California, Hawaii, New York, etc.), Asian Americans constitute a considerable proportion of the total population. It is projected that, by the year 2050, the total number of Asian Americans will reach 34 million which is 9% of the total population (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1999). In contrast to the fast-growing rate of Asian Americans, rehabilitation research and services are lagging behind. This page provides information about available services for Asians and Asian Americans.
