108 Final Paper Topics.
Write on one or more of
the following in essay form (produce a total of around 10 to 15 typed pages).
You may also propose a topic of your own.
1) Consider whether Kant's
program for perpetual peace is viable in light of the moral regression that
took place in the 20th century as documented by Hobsbawm in his article,
"Barbarism a User's Guide?" Remember that Hobsbawm remains committed
to the same Enlightenment tradition of which Kant was a part. Does Habermas
present a viable program for a revitalized pursuit of perpetual peace in the 21st
century in his article, "A Political Constitution for a Pluralist World
Society?"
2) Is the right of
hospitality that Kant describes in the Second Definitive Article in Perpetual
Peace an adequate solution to the problems of refugeeism and immigration in the
current period? Discuss this with respect to Agamben's treatment of these
problems in his article, "We Refugees."
3) Discuss changes in methods
of discipline and surveillance following 9/11 in relation to Foucault's treatment
of this theme in his articles on our website. Consult the article (also on our
website) "Escalating Police Surveillance."
