Your answers and figures should be made with a word processing and drawing tool (Paint).

The following problems are for you to practice problem solving and idea generation. These designs should pass the “conceptual test”, i.e., after seeing the drawings, the reader can agree that prototypes based on these designs will work. A good design should be able to solve at least one anticipated problem.

1.-        Show the design of a mechanism to lift something using a force which is half or less its weight. Detailed drawings that illustrate the concepts are required. In addition to illustrate the concepts, your design should also incorporate a solution to at least one anticipated practical problem the mechanism will face once it is built into a prototype.

2.-        Show the design of a human prosthetic arm, it should be able to fold and swing by the elbow. Detailed drawings that illustrate the concepts are required. In addition to illustrate the concepts, your design should also incorporate a solution to at least one anticipated practical problem the mechanism will face once it is built into a prototype.

3.-        You are given an egg, some tape, and several drinking straws. Using only these materials, design the most efficient system that will prevent the egg from crashing when dropped from a height of six feet (two meters). Detailed drawings that illustrate the concepts are required. Explain what natural phenomenon or physics you are using to your advantage in designing your system for preventing the egg from breaking.

The following questions are from LabVIEW

4.-        You are in the Block Diagram inside LabVIEW, wiring an operator and a string indicator. You have wired LabVIEW elements before and they worked, so you are an experienced ‘wirer’, but this time you always get a broken wire. What could have happened and how would you fix the problem?

5.-        You are having a broken  Run Button, tell two different ways to get the error list.

6.-        Describe how would you “assign the connectors” of a newly designed subVI. Assigning connectors are necessary for a VI to work as a ‘subVI’ (a subVI is a VI that performs a set of operations within a larger VI, normally in several different places)
