Rules:
-Collaboration between team
members is encouraged, each member will be responsible
for one problem and may be asked to explain it.
-Each member should present
the solution on a blank sheet with her/his name on it; solutions from each team
are to be stapled together
-Solutions should include
“self-explained” diagrams/sketches, with minimal wording. Presentation will
count toward the problem grading.
1.- Design a method to calculate the height of the ceiling in the
lecture room by using ONLY a coin, and a stopwatch. Perform the method and
record results in the same page.
2.- About the experiment of the car with a ball, rolling
frictionless at constant speed on a
horizontal track, at some point the ball get launched up vertically. Assume the
ball density is high enough to ignore air friction, give a detailed explanation
of why the ball will fall behind or in front of the car, indicate if your argument
agrees with or challenges against the assumption that motion along
perpendicular directions are independent. If you think the ball will fall back
into the car, for this extra credit, describe a different situation that shows
the same point.
3.- A ball is dropped inside a train moving at constant velocity
of 15m/s in a horizontal direction. It took 1s to hit the floor. What is the
average velocity of the ball in that interval with respect to the ground?
