Liquid Perception
Deleuze: Cinema 1, pages 1-86 over the course of this and the following session. In other words, you have two weeks to complete the reading assignment. This will be challenging. Deleuze is not easy to read and 43 pages of Deleuze each week risks driving you up a wall. Do not despair though. My job is to teach you this difficult material. Be sure to give yourselves enough time to read slowly and carefully, as well as to watch the assigned films.
Zabel: “Some Themes from Deleuze’s Cinema.” This is a bare bones tour through Cinema, only 50 paragraphs long. Its purpose is to help you see the forest in spite of the many trees that grow in Deleuze’s dense two-volume work. Refer to it whenever you are confused about what this all means.
