Portrait of a Youth with a Medal,
1470-5, Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence

This painting was transferred to the Uffizi in 1666 from ownership of Cardinal Carlo de' Medici. Art historians theorize that the sitter in the portrait was either linked to the Medici (the medal, coined in 1464, shows the profile of Cosimo the Elder Pater Patriae with the inscription MAGNUS COSMUS MEDICES PPP) or he was Antonio Filipepi, the goldsmith and medallist brother to Botticelli.
