Le Centre National de la Chanson was established by Brian Thompson at the University of Massachusetts Boston in 1992 to promote French and French-language song, especially as a vehicle for the teaching and learning of French and of the various francophone cultures throughout the world. From 1993 through 1998 it organized a major festival of music from the French-speaking world, L'Air du temps, which brought fine artists from around the world to the Greater Boston area. It continues to organize concert series with visiting artists, des oiseaux de passage. Brian Thompson has also written and lectured widely on the pedagogy of song. His book, La Clef des chants: La Chanson dans la classe de français (Cambridge MA: Polyglot Productions, 1986), out of print, is available in what will be a periodically updated version here on-line. Collaboration in keeping it up to date is welcome.

Le Centre National de la Chanson a été établi par Brian Thompson à l' Université du Massachusetts Boston en 1992 pour promouvoir la chanson française et francophone, surtout comme un véhicule pour l'enseignement de l'apprentissage du français et des diverses cultures francophones de par le monde.. De 1993 en 1998 le CNC a organisé un important festival de musique du monde francophone, L'Air du temps, qui a fait venir d'excellents artistes francophones dans la région de Boston. Il continue à organiser des séries de concerts avec des oiseaux de passage. Brian Thompson a également écrit sur la chanson et fait de nombreux ateliers sur la pédagogie par la chanson. Son livre, La Clef des chants: La Chanson dans la classe de français (Cambridge MA: Polyglot Productions, 1986), épuisé sur papier, est disponible en morceux sur ce site.
